Don Simmons Music Education Scholarship

The Fund will provide scholarships to University of Montana undergraduate students in the School of Music according to the following guidelines: Juniors who are majoring in music education. Selection shall be based on merit, targeted toward those students who are outstanding music education majors. If there are two equally meritorious music education majors, preference shall be given to the student with the greatest financial need. One award shall be made each year to a junior. The scholarship is renewable for a second year as long as recipients continue to meet the scholarship criteria. Following the inaugural year, and providing funding is sufficient, there will ideally be one junior and one senior student benefiting from the Fund each academic year.

Responsibility for selection: Awarding the Don Simmons Music Education Scholarship shall be the responsibility of the scholarship selection committee appointed by the director of the School of Music. The committee shall determine the amounts of the scholarship awards and the recipients. During his lifetime, Phil Bain will also confer with the committee regarding recipient selection, if he is available.
