The purpose of the Richard Paul Coombs / Alumni Association Memorial Award is to provide an award to a student who performed a heroic deed, which is defined as an instance where a person has given a helping hand, aided people in distress, or saved a life." These were qualities personified by Richard Paul Coombs. If no one is qualified as described above, an accounting student in good standing may receive the award."
