Alan Lee Boyer Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of the Alan Lee Boyer Memorial Scholarship is to provide an annual award to a student with academic ability and financial need.
Alan Lee Boyer was the only son of Charles & Dorothy Boyer who lived in Illinois & established this scholarship. Alan attended the U of Montana after graduating from high school in 1964. He dropped out of UM to enlist in the Army and was sent to Vietnam in 1967. Alan disappeared on March 28, 1968 while on a covert CIA mission in Laos. Forty-eight years later in March 2016, a small bone shard was turned over to the US government by a Lao peace activist. The DNA from the bone fragment matched his sister Judi’s DNA. He was awarded 10 medals, including the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Alan was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in June 2016. He is survived by his sister Judi Boyer Bouchard.
