Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation Native American Graduate Fellowship
The fund shall provide one graduate fellowship to be awarded annually at The University of Montana. To be eligible to apply for the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation Native American Graduate Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria: * Be accepted to a Master’s or Doctoral Degree program at the Graduate School of The University of Montana (no law degree or medical related field, including pharmacy); * Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate and 3.0 during any graduate program work; * Submit a one page typed essay indicating reasons for pursuing graduate education and goals for application of education; * Graduate from a 4-year regionally accredited institution of higher learning anywhere in the United States; * Submit five letters of reference, including two from nonacademic individuals; * Have received an appropriate standardized test score, if required by program (GRE, GMAT); * Be a Montana resident, and; * Be a member of a Montana Federally Recognized Indian Tribe. Upon receipt of the Fellowship, provided the student remains in academic good standing, the student is guaranteed one year of funding in the amount of a $10,000 stipend, designation as a Research or Teaching Assistant and eligibility for a Montana Native American Fee waiver. In order to remain eligible to receive funding, the student must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. At the end of fall semester of the first year, the Graduate School will review the student’s academic progress. If the student’s GPA is below a cumulative 3.0 at this time or at the end of the spring semester. The student must reapply for the Fellowship and will be subject to the competitive process for selection.
